Are there any instructions?
Yes. There is a step by step guide available.
Why don't the results look right?
This is all about expectations.
If you entered some results and then looked at the "Check_Results" or tab you'll see lots of warnings and incorrect points calculations. This is by design.
The spreadsheet will give the right results at the end of each round: not before. The same goes for the "Live_Standings" tab. In short:
Partial results = crazy (but temporary) results.
In more detail:
The table in "Check_Results" is a sorted list. It is sorted by ID. The data for Round 1 is also sorted by ID (but on a hidden tab) so everything will line up (eventually).
The hidden tab is necessary to match the format of the original spreadsheet.
If there's a partial list of results, the results list will be incomplete, and shorter, than the list of players. Therefore the two columns (both sorted by ID) won't align properly just yet. For example:
A partial set of 8 results (of 9) will try to align a column of 18 players with 16 opponents, with two rows blank. Depending on where the missing result is, this will give more or less red cells on the "Check_Results" tab simply because the lists aren't the same length.
This situation will continue until all the ties in the round have been entered.
Bottom line: don't expect the "Check_Results" and "Live_Standings" tabs to show a true picture until each round is over.
To show this: create a full set of dummy results then:
- Look at the "Check_Results" tab: all is well.
- Delete the row containing the last result.
- Look at the "Check_Results" tab: all is not well
- Re-enter the last result.
- Look at the "Check_Results" tab: all is well.
Deleting a row from a full set of results creates a mismatch between the length of the columns. Once a full set is in place, everything aligns as it should.
Also try this:
- Look at the "Check_Results" tab: all is well.
- Delete all but the player numbers from the last result.
- Look at the "Check_Results" tab: all is well
This works because the lists are the same length (the same number of players) but are simply missing a result.
Can I publish the roster & results to the web?
Yes. With editor privileges you can easily publish tabs as a web page:
- File | Share | Publish to web,
- Link | Select "Input_Players" as Web page,
- Click Publish (green button),
- Confirm,
- Paste to Bluesky, X.com, Facebook, ADLG forum, etc.
- Repeat for the "Live_Standings" tab.
Do I have to use the various Draw tabs?
No. The design of the spreadsheet is such that there's no need to enter the draw at all. You can devise and use any draw format you want. Of course, this means you have to manually check for clashes and repeated ties.
How do I upload this to the ADLG web site for checking?
Follow these steps in Google Docs:
- File | Download | OpenDocument (ods),
- Open artdelaguerre.fr/adlg/v3/?/en/statistics/armies,
- Drag & drop the downloaded file,
- Correct any errors as normal,
- Once free of errors, email to adlgv3@gmail.com.
Please report any serious issues with uploading your files via my contact form.
Can I use the spreadsheet without an Internet connection?
Yes. You will need a chrome based browser such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Vivaldi. Then you simply enable offline access. There is a full set of instructions here.
Remember to login once you have a connection to save your work online.
Why are the points for a “Mutual Destruction” wrong?
A drawn game with mutual destruction works in exactly the same way as any other drawn game, and you must enter both army sizes as losses to award each player 58 points.
You cannot leave them blank as you would for a losing player in a decisive game. If you leave both cells blank, the players will be given fewer (and incorrect) points. This inconsistency is due to the way the original spreadsheet calculates the points.
