Terrain Placement Sequence (p74)

Player Pieces Notes
Defender Compulsory + 2-4 other pieces. Dice for Coast if chosen.
Attacker 2-4 pieces. Dice for Coast if chosen.
Defender Places compulsory terrain
Either River or coast. Defender first.
Defender Village & "free" road. Connect to an edge.
Both All other pieces, except road, in turn. Start with all Defender's pieces.
Either Road.
Attacker Adjust terrain placement. Terrain + adjustment attempts = 4.
Defender Adjust terrain placement. Terrain + adjustment attempts = 4.

Terrain Adjustment (p75)

Notes

  1. Cannot move, rotate or remove: coast, river, road, village or village & hill.
  2. Can only remove one piece per game and not one piece per player.

Deployment Sequence (p77-78)

Type Order Notes
Camps, fortifications & obstacles. Defender then Attacker. Camps must touch the baseline, river or coast unless fortified.
Battle plans. Both
Ambushes. Defender then Attacker.
Army Corps Defender then Attacker. In turn until all troops deployed except flank marches & ambushes.
Dismount troops. Defender then Attacker. Permanent. Battle plan must say if troops in ambush are dismounted.
